Geneva L. KowalkeGeneva L. Kowalke of Baraboo passed away at her home on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008. She was born on Jan. 24, 1924, to Ernest and Iva (Hewitt) Haskins. On July 26, 1941, she was united in marriage to Irvin "Ike" Kowalke. When Industrial Coils moved to Baraboo, Geneva was one of the first employees hired. She worked in the winding department, working her way up to supervisor of the winding department, where she worked until her retirement. In her retirement, she and Ike enjoyed traveling, garage sale-ing and being on their hobby farm. Geneva was a good cook and an avid cook book collector and music box collector.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Heidi) of Baraboo and Bradley (Cheri) of Waunakee; daughter-in-law, Elaine of North Freedom; grandchildren, Todd (Diane), Kenny, Lori (Darren) Zimmerman, Derek, Amanda, Leslie (Tim Waterbury), Maria, Rona, Brenda, Debbie, John, and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Danielle, Nickole, Alissa, Tia, Mason, Jenna and Jordan Fleischmann, and Cheyanne Griffin; sisters-in-law, Pauline Haskins of Lakewood, Colo. and Effie Haskins of Baraboo; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Shirley Kowalke of Fort Myers, Fla.; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was welcomed into heaven by her loving husband of 63 years, Ike; her son, Kenneth; her daughter-in-law, Margie; brothers, Barney, Jerry and Richard Haskins; and her parents, Ernest and Iva Haskins. The family is grateful to special neighbors, Audrey and Gary Knoshal, for their care and concern for "Neighbor Jen."
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Thomas Fricke officiating. Burial will be held in Walnut Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. in Baraboo and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
